1947 - 1999
Lorne was born on Wolfe Island on a family dairy farm. He was the youngest of seven children, five boys and two girls. His brothers had him skating on hand me down skates at the age of three on an outdoor pond on the family farm. His mother said he learned to skate by pushing around an old kitchen chair on the ice until he graduated to a hockey stick.
Lorne played Church Athletic hockey through his grade school years and grew to love the sport, as a young man he played on the Wolfe Island mens league, DuPont of Canada hockey team and Joyceville Penetentary league. In later years he played Oldtimer Hockey with the Wolfe Island Team Wednesday nights and on the Kingston Monday and Thursday morning Oldtimers teams.
Over the years he was an active coach for many of his son's hockey teams, and when due to his health he could no longer play in Oldtimer tournaments he loved to help out on the bench.
Lorne was a large frame of a man and yet he never felt the need to push his weight around. instead he loved the sportsmanship of the game and the many friends he made over the years.
He is survived by Theresa his wife of 32 + years and their two children, Kim and Tammy, as well as two grandchildren, Stacey and Clara.
Remember Lorne with a smile today, his strength, his jokes, his sportsmanship. The way he laughed, the good times he shared with you on the ice and in the dressing rooms. His eyes that shone with fun.
Teammate and close friend Gord Patterson.
