Ken Potts

1926 - 2000

Kingston born and educated, Ken attended Rideau Public School, Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute, and Queens University.

Ken was very active in the years 1942- 49 were he played on local baseball and hockey teams. Ken played on a number of the top Kingston Baseball clubs such as the Kingston Loco's, The Kingston Ponies, and the Kingston Athletics. Ken was offered a scholarship to attend and play hockey for the University of Colarado. When he got to the U.S.A. border he didn't realize he needed a Visa, and had to return to Kingston. Since it was too late to go to west to Colarado, he went East to Scotland where he played for the Kirkcaldy Fife Flyers.

As a youth and adult his hockey talents were shared by the The Kingston Vics were he received the MVP trophy under the coaching eye of the late Max Jackson with the Amherst Nova Scotia hockey club and abroad in Scotland with the Kirkcaldy Hockey Club (1948-1949).

Ken returned home to Kingston in 1950 were he married his high school sweetheart Berle, started his family and was employed with DuPont of Canada, Kingston Plant for 12 years and then moved on to State Farm Insurance were he stayed for 31 years and retired in 1995.

Hockey very much being a part of Kens life he played on the DuPont Teams, and the 1952-53 Kingston Goodyears, The Gananoque Gates Hockey Team (1954-55), The Vimy Signals OHA Intermediate "B" squad.

Kens Oldtimers Hockey was spread between "Pat's Rad Devils" and the Friday night hockey group that presented him with a trophy on his 70th birthday. Ken was also a very avid golfer and played at Cataraqui Golf Course for over 20 years

Ken passed away very suddenly on Sept 4th, 2000, while standing by his golf locker.
