Gerald Roger Hynes "Jerry" October 25th /1942- October 09/2007
PROFILE :
Jerry's early years were spent playing hockey on the roads of Portsmouth Village as well as with the Church Athletic League and Minor Hockey for "Doc" Myles. Jerry also played a year with the Jr. "B" Frontenac's with myself, Gary Lavalle, Garfield Ball,Wayne Cashman, Charlie Convery to name a few. Jerry also played on different teams in the Limestone League which later became the Kingston District League.
Jerry was one of the organizors of TESHA (Township of Ernestown Senior Hockey Association) and played in that league for quite a few years. Jerry was also one of the founding members of the "Ernestown Oldtimers Hockey Association" and played with them for many years. When Jerry resigned from the Ernestown Oldtimers, he joined the Portsmouth Old Boys team where he played for several years. When Jerry moved away to Darlington for work reasons he was forced to "retire" from his hockey career BUT as we all know, Jerry could never stay retired! When he returned to Kingston, he joined the Kingston Leftovers and enjoyed many more tournaments with them.
Jerry was also an avid pool player and played many tournaments for both #9 and 560 Legions. Some of these tournaments were played with his son Kevin as his partner and from what I understand they were quite a team, winning several games.
Jerry loved softball as well and played in the old "Circle" League for both the Lakeview Manor and Portsmouth House Pete's.
One thing most players who played with Jerry will remember is his love of singing.............I think he believed he was Dean Martin!!! He used to drive us crazy on the long bus rides home from out of town tournaments ... The more we complained, the louder he sang.
