Robert Ian Dunkinson (1946-2007)

Robert’s early years in hockey were frequently spent outdoors, skating at the Victoria Park rink. His formal instruction and coaching was with the Church Athletic League and he skated for the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church team.

A lifetime spent in Kingston and his career as a school teacher with Frontenac County schools provided him many hours or recreational hockey. For 45 years he skated with teams in and around Kingston and he had the pleasure of playing overseas. We enjoyed watching him play with T.E.S.H.A. in Amherstview, Puck & Ball with the Alers, the Flames with his comrades from teaching and the Wolfe Island team in the late night Bank league. He played in Europe with the Lanark team and with the 49ers in may local tournaments. Bob loved the game of hockey. Playing with “the Guys” was a great source of happiness. He was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan and avidly collected hockey cards.

Bob is remembered as a good skater, a fair and dependable player and team mate who put his heart and soul into playing the game of hockey.

Bob’s family thank the 49ers for offering this trophy in his memory.
