Allan Carscallen was born in the village of Portsmouth in 1944, and spent most of his life there. He attended Portsmouth Public School, KCVI and QECVI before joining the Kingston Fire Department in 1956 . Allan was very active in the Kingston Professional Firefighters Association Throughout his career as a firefighter and was a strong supporter of the annual MD Campaign, as well as fundraising for the Kingston General Hospital Burn unit until his retirement in 1995. He progressed through the ranks and was promoted to Captain April 10th 1989 and retired at that rank on November 30th, 1995. During his career with the Kingston Fire Department he served as Union secretary for over ten years. Allan's hockey career began with participation in the Church Athletic League as a boy, and grew into participation in old-timers hockey with a number of teams, including the firefighters teams , the Bayridge Oldtimers and the Portsmouth Bay Boys Al enjoyed and played a number of sports, and was an avid golfer along with being a hockey fan, with a passion for the Detroit Red Wings that started with the love of Gordie Howe and continued long after Gordie stopped playing.
